Get Your Gums Back Where They Belong

August 27, 2018
Dental Care

Healthy gums closely surround your teeth, helping to prevent infection, stabilizing teeth, and giving your smile the right balance of teeth and gums. Gum tissue can recede for a number of reasons, potentially exposing the tooth roots. If you have receding gums and thought there was nothing that could be done about it, read on. Uptown Dental Associates is proud to offer a revolutionary treatment for gum recession.

Traditional Gum Recession Treatment

The historical view of gum recession treatment was that if there wasn’t enough tissue to cover the roots, gum tissue needed to be grafted on. The grafting process, which is still necessary in some cases, wasn’t all that pleasant but typically produced good results.

Introducing The Chao Pinhole® Gum Recession Treatment

Dr. Ryan Shepherd is the only dentist in New Mexico who is certified to perform this groundbreaking gum recession treatment. This isn’t oral surgery as you might understand it; there are no scalpels, no tissue grafting, no stitches, minimal if any pain, and very short healing times.

Dr. Shepherd will completely numb the area to be worked on. Then he’ll make one or more very small pinholes in your gum. He’ll use insert a special instrument into the pinholes and use it to gently lift your gumline back where it should be to cover your teeth roots.

The Chao Pinhole® Gum Recession Treatment is a very quick procedure; so quick, in fact, that it’s sometimes referred to as the “lunchtime gum lift.” Depending on your particular circumstances, it may be possible to complete your gum recession treatment in a single appointment.

But Does It Hurt?

This might surprise you, but most patients who experience The Chao Pinhole® Gum Recession Treatment report little or even no pain the day after treatment. The discomfort that some experience afterward is easily handled using over-the-counter pain relievers.

Since there are no incisions or stitches – just pinholes – healing is generally much faster than with traditional oral surgery and almost always trouble-free.
