If you’re one of the many, many people who cringe at the thought of visiting a dentist, take heart! Relieving patients’ dental anxiety is one of the things we love to do at Uptown Dental Associates in Albuquerque, NM. Dr. Ryan Shepherd and all our staff take a strict “no judgments” approach to helping people who dread the dentist. Our total focus is on helping you have your most relaxed dental appointments ever so you can receive the care you need.

How We Help

Your most relaxed dental appointment ever begins when you walk into our welcoming Albuquerque, NM office.

All of our staff are caring, excellent listeners who take your concerns very seriously. Please let us know of any concerns you might have about your dental care.

If you prefer a longer appointment so you won’t feel rushed or pressured, we’re happy to arrange that. We also provide a number of comfort options for our patients:

  • Serene outdoor views
  • Private care rooms
  • Blankets and pillows
  • Freshly-baked cookies
  • Headphones

For those who need a little more help relaxing, we’re proud to offer three levels of dental sedation for our patients. Having three options means that we can provide you with exactly what you need to relax and be comfortable during your time with us.

Inhaled sedation is just what it sounds like. You inhale a mixture of gas and oxygen through a small mask. Almost everyone, even children, can benefit from this level of sedation. The gas mixture is very fast-acting so you’ll feel much calmer and more relaxed after just a few breaths. The effects of inhaled sedation wear off very quickly once you’re breathing just room air, so you needn’t worry about feeling groggy afterward.

Oral-conscious dental sedation is a deeper level of sedation. We’ll prescribe a pill that you take at a predetermined time before your appointment. You’ll need someone to drive you to and from your appointment, as driving while sedated is a really bad idea. You’ll be fully relaxed when you arrive for your appointment and will only have vague memories of your dental care.

IV sedation is the strongest form of dental sedation we offer. This isn’t the full, unconscious anesthesia that you might have experienced during surgery. You’ll remain conscious so we can ask simple questions, but it’s very unlikely that you’ll remember anything about your time in the chair. You’ll definitely need a ride home from someone you trust afterward.

We’re always conscious of your safety and comfort so we carefully monitor your sedation level during your time with us.
