General Dentistry
What to expect on your first visit
Read Transcript
On your first visit to the office, we will generally speaking take you back to see one of the doctor's assistants first. That assistant will find out a bit of background on you and what you're experiencing and if you have any in particular concerns about your mouth. They'll get your x-rays and get a sense of what your priorities are and what your goals are with your appointment. After they have done that initial work, then I greet the patient and get a chance to get to know the patient a little bit. Oftentimes my dental assistants will try to get me to shut my mouth because I love talking to my patients so much that we'll oftentimes talk about their personal lives far longer than I probably should.
Then when we're done with all of that piece of the appointment, then we send them to see the hygienist. The hygienist will then spend about an hour getting to know the patient and cleaning the teeth, polishing, doing oral cancer screenings and really educating the patients on their mouth. Our hygienists in this office are absolutely phenomenal on that front. They know almost as much as the dentists in the practice do about how to care for the mouth. They really end up being an extra source of education and patient advocacy on that front. As you go through the office, you get a chance to touch base with many, many different people in the office and each of them tries their best to take good care of you and make you feel at home.
